Many Chinese traditions are tainted by superstition or unnecessary negative associations. As a result, Chinese people are unable to see objects associated with such traditions in an objective way.
Funeral papercraft has a long history in China. Most locals will find it ‘dirty’ as it is associated with the ultimate taboo of death and evil spirits. It is only used for burning for the deceased.
By presenting it in a new context, in this case as a collage, viewers may be able to appreciate a different aspect of the tradition. It is hoped that bad connotations can be exorcised.
