The giant panda is the rarest member of the bear family and considered to be China's national treasure. With a diet mostly consisting of bamboo, pandas have large distinctive black patches around their eyes, over their ears and across its body. In Chinese, their name translates to 'bear-cat' so we’ve created this panda in the likeness of our ‘lucky cat’, usually found in the front of shops and restaurants to welcome in new business.
This lucky panda is holding a gold ingot or sycee. Formerly used as currency during Imperial China, gold ingots are still used as a symbol of wealth mainly seen during the lunar new year.
Lai-see packets or red envelopes are used to give good luck money on special occasions such as weddings, birthdays and during the lunar new year.
