It was happenstance that Douglas visited the Jumbo floating restaurant. Hong Kong was hit by the double whammy of social unrest and COVID, rendering tourists all but disappeared. This naturally hammered Jumbo's business, and by 2021, it ceased operation. Douglas was invited by the operator to have a look at the disused vessel and maybe submit some ideas for how to transform it.
Just months after he took the photographs, Jumbo was lost to the sea. It was a huge media sensation; everyone mourned its passing. Like many a demolished Hong Kong landmark, its significance was only realised after it was no longer around.
