Foodscape is a collection of poetry, essays, and photographs about food, created during an exchange between Swiss and south Chinese authors. Sensual workshops, readings, and discussions made it possible for participants to experience what was otherwise mutually foreign.

Why Switzerland and China? Both are astonishingly multilingual: while Switzerland’s national languages are German, French, Italian, and Romansh, people in the Pearl River Delta region speak Cantonese, Putonghua, English, and Portuguese. Because of this compact blend of language and culture, the literary works of Swiss and south Chinese writers seem to share a sense of the transitory, the personal, and the linguistically playful. Surface-level simplicity often yields to biting insights about everyday life and the self. So what better vessel to bring these authors together than a bite of food?

Featuring reflections by Leung Ping-kwan, Lo Kwai-cheung, Agnes Lam, Yang Qian, Siu Yan-ho, Peter Weber, Odile Cornuz, and Gérard Henry, among many others. Each text is translated into Chinese, English, Portuguese, German, French, and Italian.
