HK:PM features a collection of photographs that are quite highly stylised visuals of what was from the 70s and 80s.
While making these pictures in the 1970s and 80s, Greg Griard was guided to some degree by the notion that they should be revealing somehow, not just to himself or other visitors, but to people who knew Hong Kong. Today these pictures have no doubt acquired some sort of historic or nostalgic cachet but at the time. He was simply trying to make pictures that corresponded with the way Hong Kong looked and felt. Apart from scenes in certain Hong Kong gangster films of the period (A Better Tomorrow, for example) it was rare to come across anything visual that registered what it felt like to be in the city, especially at night.
