If you heard someone throw out the phrase ‘mindless mindfulness’ amidst the break-neck speed and air-tight schedules of urban life, you might experience a brief moment of longing, before snapping back to reality to retort—‘Absurd!’ Not so fast! In fact, we only need to be willing to keep a ‘mindless mindset’, and we can unlock a new world.
Ceramic artist and design educator Rosanna Li Wei Han’s monograph Mindless Mindfulness brims with her humour and insight into contemporary city life. With her cleverly titled found objects and portly figurines, she leads viewers to think twice about the world around us: Blue or pink? Male or female? Cured ducks or ceramic geese? Computer mouse or deer tail? Discover the witty double-takes in Li’s art for yourself in this light-hearted chronicle of her creative practice, created on the occasion of her exhibition Men and Women – This and Less for the Artists in the Neighbourhood Scheme V.
