Following in her father's footsteps at age 13, Ho Sau-Mei began training in the art of carving mahjong tiles by hand. Now in her mid-60s, Ho carries on her family legacy in the same shop where she grew up, while most of the industry has turned to factory-made, mass-produced plastic tiles. With only a few mahjong sifus (masters) left in Hong Kong and no successors to the trade, mahjong carving may very well disappear with her generation.
